Who we are
Wirebeat helps you discover trusted headlines and breaking news across sources. We are the controller of your personal data where we decide how and why it is processed.
Legal entity: Wirebeat Ltd (placeholder). Registered in England & Wales. Contact: privacy@wirebeat.com.
How we collect data
- Directly from you (e.g. when you perform a search, contact us, or set preferences).
- Automatically through cookies, local storage, and server logs when you use our site.
- From third parties such as analytics providers, error monitoring, and content partners (e.g. RSS/Atom feeds you choose to view).
What we collect
- Usage data: pages viewed, searches, referrer, approximate location (derived from IP), device/browser information, and timestamps.
- Search queries: the terms you enter to find news (minimised and stored separately from direct identifiers where possible).
- Technical data: IP address, user-agent, cookies, error diagnostics.
- Account/contact data (if you supply it): name, email, preferences.
We do not intentionally collect special category data. Please avoid entering sensitive personal information into search fields.
How we use data
- Provide the service: perform searches, display results, and operate core features.
- Improve and secure Wirebeat: analytics, debugging, preventing abuse, and measuring performance.
- Preferences: remember language/geography selections and UI settings.
- Communications: respond to messages and send service notices (no marketing without consent).
- Compliance: meet legal, tax, and regulatory obligations.
Our legal bases (UK GDPR / GDPR)
- Performance of a contract (to provide the site and its features you request).
- Legitimate interests (to improve, secure, prevent fraud/abuse, and measure performance). We balance these interests against your rights.
- Consent (where we use optional cookies/analytics or send marketing; you can withdraw consent at any time).
- Legal obligation (where processing is necessary to comply with the law).
Analytics, search logs & aggregated data
We analyse usage in a way that minimises identifiers to help us improve relevance and reliability. We keep search logs separate from direct identifiers where feasible and use aggregation or pseudonymisation when appropriate.
You can opt out of non-essential analytics in Cookie settings.
How long we keep data
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out above:
- Search and usage logs: typically short retention with aggregation thereafter.
- Account/contact data: for the life of the account or enquiry plus a reasonable period.
- Legal/backup copies: retained as required by law or for security/continuity.
Your privacy rights
Subject to conditions and exemptions, you have the right to:
- access your data;
- rectify inaccurate data;
- erase data (“right to be forgotten”);
- restrict or object to processing, including for legitimate interests and direct marketing;
- data portability;
- withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent;
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (e.g. the UK ICO).
To make a request, email privacy@wirebeat.com. For your security, we may ask you to verify your identity.

International transfers
Where data is transferred outside the UK/EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy regulations, Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), and supplementary measures as required.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organisational measures to protect data (e.g. encryption in transit, access controls, monitoring). No system is 100% secure; we continually improve our safeguards.
Children’s privacy
Wirebeat is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to our practices or for legal reasons. We will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
